COYOTEPEC |
This tour is only carried out on Friday
the traditional market day in Ocotlán de Morelos; 30 km to the south of the
city of Oaxaca. This is one of the most authentically Indigenous markets
near the capitol. During the tour, we visit two more towns. In San Bartolo
Coyotepec we have to opportunity to observe the ancient Mesoamerican potters
traditional methods of creating pots and jars by hand without the use of a
potter's wheel. This technique was revived by the legendary Doña Rosa who
worked exclusively in black clay to produce black pottery known the world
over. In Santo Tomás Jalietza, the women use a simple traditional back strap
